🔺WHAT IS SICKLE CELL DISORDER?🔻
 
Sickle cell disorder is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders of which sickle cell anaemia is the most common and most severe. Ideally, the flexible, round, disc-shaped red blood cells move easily through different sizes of blood vessels. However, with sickle cell disorder, the red blood cells are shaped like sickles (hence the name, “Sickle cell”), making them less flexible. These “sickled” cells die early, leading to a shortage of red blood cells in the body.
 
 This unusual, new found “rigidity” also means that certain blood vessels will get blocked, preventing blood from getting to different parts of the body, leading to aches, pains, and other serious health issues like stroke.
