I grew up in a community of political dissidents, exiled from our home and families, but learned to build bonds with people that connected us closer than blood ever could. My first trip to the motherland was captured in the documentary “Sing Freedom”, which will finally air publicly this summer. It’s a story I want to share for all of us lost in the diaspora. My music career came to a halt for four years after I was placed on the no-fly list, and experienced perpetual surveillance and detainments.
