In the spring of 2019, an email invitation from the ACLU of Connecticut connected me with Senior Policy Organizer Anderson Curtis and Campaign Manager Gus Marks-Hamilton. This transformative encounter ignited my passion for legislation and policy, setting me on a course dedicated to creating meaningful change. Over the past seven years, I have had the privilege of working tirelessly with Smart Justice, lobbying for justice and equity at the Connecticut State Capitol, and engaging deeply with the community. Throughout my advocacy journey, I am proud of the significant strides we have made in advancing critical legislation. Notably, I played a key role in advocating for Senate Bill 880, which established Connecticut as the first state to systematically gather and analyze prosecutorial data to combat racial bias a landmark achievement for criminal justice reform. Additionally, my efforts around the Clean Slate Bill (Senate Bill 1019) opened doors for thousands of formerly incarcerated individuals, aiding their reintegration into society. These successes, along with my support for Senate Bill 1070, underscore my commitment to promoting transparency and improving conditions within state prisons. Today, I am thrilled to introduce The Black Legacy Civic Knowledge Alliance PAC, a groundbreaking 501(c)(4) organization designed to elevate civic engagement among marginalized populations in particular the Black community. Our mission is clear: to educate individuals about self-advocacy and empower them to hold lawmakers accountable. In a landscape where many organizations overlook these voices, The Black Legacy Civic Knowledge Alliance PAC will be the first Political Action Committee firm entirely focused on educating for marginalized communities. As the Founder and Chief Research Officer of The Black Legacy Civic Knowledge Alliance PAC my leadership is bolstered by a strong foundation of historical knowledge on policies that have adversely affected these populations.
