I am an English professor at Caltech. My work focuses on American literature, especially the 19th century. My most recent book is Finding the Right Words: A Story of Literature, Grief, and the Brain (John’s Hopkins University Press, 2021). I wrote it with renowned neurologist Dr. Bruce L. Miller, and it is a dual memoir about my father’s early-onset Alzheimer’s. I am deeply committed to sharing with a wide audience what I have learned about neurology.
