Graduated in Law, specialising in International Law and Islamic Law with a PhD in International Conflict Analysis. Research Director at the advocacy group CAGE, and since 2003 have specialised in investigating the impact of counterterrorism practices worldwide. Have been published in wide range of NGO reports, academic journals and articles. In 2009, authored the book ‘Rules of the Game: Detention, Deportation, Disappearance’ (Hurst, Columbia University Press), 2019 ‘A Virtue of Disobedience’ (Unbound), and 2020 ‘I Refuse to Condemn: Resisting Racism in Times of National Security’. Since 2010, I have been advising legal teams involved in defending terrorism trials in the US and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
